The apartment at Kepplestone by the Sea was super cozy, with beautiful garden and ocean views. I felt like I was in my own little paradise. The kitchenette had everything I needed, so I could make my own meals and save some money during my stay. The private bathroom was convenient, and I appreciated having a hair dryer available. The flat-screen TV with cable channels kept me entertained when I wanted to relax in the evenings. The free WiFi was a bonus, allowing me to stay connected with friends and family during my trip.
Personally, I found the ocean views from the apartment a bit overwhelming. But I understand that others might find them absolutely breathtaking.

We had a fantastic stay at Kepplestone By The Sea - The Catlins. The location was absolutely stunning, with a peaceful estuary and playful sea lions right on Surat Bay beach. It truly felt like a secluded paradise. The hosts were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. We were even rescued by Jack when we found ourselves stranded at Cannibal Bay. The atmosphere of the place was unique and had a nostalgic kiwiana charm. The bed was comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep after our adventures.

Cute little place near beach with shops and restaurants nearby. Enjoyed golfing, horse riding, fishing, and watching sea lions. Safety first with fire extinguisher and a first aid kit. Free breakfast, airport shuttle, and a terrace. Natural beauty at Catlins Lake and Jack's Blowhole.
Who needs a hotel with a stunning location and plenty of activities when the shower pressure is just okay?

The location of this property was fantastic, with the beach being just a short walk away. It was in a quiet and peaceful area, perfect for a relaxing weekend getaway. the host was very welcoming and had great local knowledge. the property itself was comfortable and clean, offering everything we needed for our stay. We also enjoyed the wildlife we encountered on our beach walks, which was a highlight of our trip.
the bathroom lacked a shade, which made us feel a little exposed at times when people walked by. these minor inconveniences did not significantly impact our overall experience at the property.

I recently stayed at Kepplestone By The Sea - The Catlins for a short getaway. The location was absolutely lovely, with the estuary and beach right across from the hotel. It was incredibly quiet and private as we were the only ones staying that night. The view of the estuary from the lounge was beautiful. The friendly owners were always ready to help and the basic breakfast included was much appreciated. The whole property had a charming, old-style Kiwiana character and it was excellent value for money.
Couldn't recommend this hotel more!

pros I recently had the pleasure of staying at this charming villa by the sea. Kepplestone By the Sea , the Catlins Villa exceeded all expectations. the owners, Jack and Esther, were not only lovely and friendly but also thought of every comfort. the photos online don't do justice to the idealistic setting. At night, the sky was a breathtaking display of stars, including the majestic Milky Way. the tranquility and quietness were unmatched. the villa provided excellent amenities, from good water pressure to a wonderfully comfortable bed. I cannot recommend Kepplestone By the Sea , the Catlins Villa enough, and I am already planning to return for another stay.
Cons Honestly, I can't fault anything about my experience at Kepplestone By the Sea , the Catlins Villa 🙌.

The value for the money at Kepplestone was great - cozy room with a comfy bed and an electric blanket that ensured a warm and peaceful night's sleep. The location was fantastic, just across the street from Surat Bay, perfect for enjoying morning coffee while listening to the birds and taking a stroll on the beach. The staff, especially Jane, were lovely and made us feel at home.
Breakfast delights, a frying pan would have been handy, and a ventilator fan in the kitchen area would have improved the breakfast experience even more.

The quirky yet immaculate accommodations provided a charming retreat. Cooking our own farm-fresh eggs for breakfast was so much fun, and the continental options were plentiful. The peaceful surroundings, with easy access to the beach and wildlife, made for an unforgettable stay. The informational binder and delightful garden added extra touches of thoughtfulness. Jane, our warm and friendly hostess, made sure our every need was met and provided a wealth of local knowledge.
